Mall play area, not the best place for (some) kids after all....

After church my daughter and I decided to have our lunch at the nearest mall just so she could play in the Mall Play Area (redundancy!)afterwards.

She was having a blast until one mom scolded her at the slide area! I was shocked at how she pointed her finger at my daughter's face like that as if she was talking to an adult! Apparently she was guiding her crawling baby up the front of the slide while the rest of the other kids lined up from behind (which is usually the case). It was my daughter's turn to slide, but the mom and her baby was there in front of her so she didn't know exactly what to do. The mom said something like, "wait! you can't slide yet, can't you see my baby's in here!" as she was pointing her finger to my daughter. I hurriedly took my daughter away from her, my poor baby who was shocked and on the verge of crying didn't understand what she did wrong! I even said sorry to the mom, (I mean I shouldn't have) and she said something like, "I'm just teaching her to follow instructions!" (Say what??)-- While I try to calm my nerves down, I thought maybe she should've gotten her baby away from the front, coz any kids will just slide away, as kids being themselves!

I felt bad and hurt for my child being treated as such! I mean I wouldn't do anything like that to any other kid. There are situations that are way beyond our control.

When I decided it's time to go home, my daughter threw a tantrum coz she isn't done playing yet. My day was ruined and I didn't want her day to get ruined as well, so I let her play for a few more minutes until she's all tired and hungry!

  1. I don't have any kids, but when I do (Because I do want them eventually) I KNOW i will not want someone trying to be MY kid's parents, much less tell ME how to parent my kids! I can see how you would be upset about that! I hope your day got better!

  9. WHAT! Ugh, some people!!!!!! >:(

You should have said something to her. But I understand you... I didn't say anything when a woman did the same thing a couple of days ago. My six years old daughter and I were at a play area in the park. There were only three kids there, my little girl, another little girl about 4 years old and a little 5 years old boy. Anyway, the boy was all hyper and didn't let the girls play in peace AT ALL. I looked around to see where his mother was, because the boy really needed some time out, if you know what I mean... But noone said anything to him, not once!! My little girl is quite behaved and I teached her to controll herself a little and be patient but the other little girl had enough, so she slapped the boy on his hand when he didn't let them climb a ladder - for the 50th time!! THEN the boy's mom shouted out loud at the little girl, something like 'Hey, why are you hitting him?! WHY are you hitting him?!! Watch it, or else!!' Can you believe that?!! I wanted to say something to that woman, even if she didn't shout at my child, but I couldn't. The girl's mom ho was standing next to me couldn't either... we just looked at each other in shock. Some people!!!!

So, I understand you. And on another train of thoughts, moms with babies should not monopolise slides and other parts of the play areas. I was careful about that when my girls were babies. As you said, kids are... kids. :)

And your girl is so adorable! AWW. <3
